The worst part about living in a wooded lot is the mildew and mold. The sun just doesn’t dry the back of my house and so the mildew gets really bad over the winter. We’ve tried power washing but the amount of water it uses gets a little excessive on the huge amount of siding we have and the amount of patio furniture in the back yard.
So we started using a tiny bit of Dawn Dish Soap and a scrub brush and it’s amazing but it cleans faster and better than a pressure washer on the siding and patio furniture!
Here’s a before and after- only using the scrub brush, dawn and water!
Better than many chemical cleaners, Dawn is very gentle on the environment – they even use diluted Dawn on animals effected by oil spills!
For siding – use an expandable scrub brush like this one.
For the patio furniture, it’s much easier to use a handled scrub brush like this one.
If your siding is like mine is has a “wood like” texture to it- going against that fake “grain” takes the grime and mildew off really fast! Circular motions work best.
To make the solution for your cleaning bucket use about three squirts per gallon. That’s a measurable amount right- a squirt? If you need an actual measurement- try 1 TBSP per gallon.
One bucket of that solution did 6 of my patio chairs and a huge chunk of my back siding. I really love a high pressure hose nozzle for rinsing off all the grim and soap.
