Summer time brings fresh produce and I love it! I love making Mason Jar Salads because they are so pretty and because they are so easy. I always have extra mason jars around but if you don’t you can find some wide mouthed ones pretty inexpensive!
We’re planning a fun summer event when we move (crossing fingers…still negotiating some things) to our new house this summer and I plan to make mason jar salads to set on a tray to serve with dinner. This way the bugs can’t get to them and everything is already portioned out and served! PLUS the guests can take the jars home (or leave them if they want). I think these chalkboard labels will be so cute!
You can put anything you want in your salad – I used carrots, radishes, cucumbers, red leaf lettuce and italian dressing- plus some walnuts.
I used a mandolin slicer to cut the carrots and radishes thin and the cucumbers thicker.
To layer- put dressing in the jar first. Then layer veggies, with the heaviest items first- cucumbers, radishes and carrots. Place the lettuce on top and be sure that the lettuce is not in the dressing or it will get soggy. Top with nuts or raisins or any of your favorite toppings.
To get the dressing spread everywhere – turn the jar upside down a few times and enjoy!
