I LOVE this dresser.
Things I LOVE about this dresser:
- My mom bought it when she was first married many years ago.
- The drawers are spacious and open and close easily.
- The original wooden wheels
- The classic hardware
It was in desperate need of some touch ups. The top was missing pieces of veneer and the drawers were also.
I took off all the hardware and cleaned it all up. I debated for hours on if I could fix the veneer enough to restain it or if it would need painting. Ended up that it would need painting.
I used wood filler to fill in the big gouges and dings. I kind of like some of the dings and dents- it shows the piece’s history just like the wrinkles on my face, so I left the smaller ones.
I sanded…and sanded….and sanded…and sanded for what felt like DAYS to get the top as smooth as I could. (p.s. See my Sanding Tips here)
I used my favorite stain ever- Minwax Expresso and then used a polyacryclic to seal the top.
Then I painted the drawers and bottom with my absolute favorite paint ever: Heirloom Traditions Polo paint. Two coats and DONE!
I ended up keeping the original hardware and just cleaned it up. p.s. Brasso is an amazing cleaner!
