Make it Mondays are brought to us by Rebecca of Tumbleweed Preschool in Advance, NC. She is always looking for frugal DIY projects for her students and her home. We are sharing Rebecca’s DIY project on MoolaSavingMom.com because they can be used for home schoolers, young artists and anyone else who wants DIY ideas that can save them money on projects around the house.
*Note: This project contains many small pieces that a young child could swallow. Take all precautions necessary.
I do a theme on transportation in my preschool. One of the art activities we do is to build a vehicle. I found some metal pieces left over from installing ceiling fans that I use for the car. I also cut up some PVC pipes that were the same diameter to use as well. The metal ones had holes at the top and bottom which made perfect places to put the axles and wheels. I drilled holes in the same place on the PVC pipes. I used washers, nuts, pieces out of old computers, felt circles and anything else I could find around the house. Of course you could make the car much larger or smaller depending on what materials you have available.
I let the children use the screwdriver and other tools but when it came to using the hot glue gun I let them lay the piece where they wanted it and I did the gluing.
Supplies:
- pipe for body
- circular items for wheels, lights, hub caps etc.
- screws or bolts for axles
- assorted items for decoration
- hot glue or Gorilla glue
Procedures:
- choose body, wheels and axle
- assemble the car with screws or glue
- add additional items such as seat, hub caps etc.
