Make it Mondays are brought to us by Rebecca of Tumbleweed Preschool in Advance, NC. She is always looking for frugal DIY projects for her students and her home. We are sharing Rebecca’s DIY project on MoolaSavingMom.com because they can be used for home schoolers, young artists and anyone else who wants DIY ideas that can save them money on projects around the house.
This desk and chair had been in a shed for years. My grandson’s other grandma gave it to my daughter so I thought I would try to refinish it. It was dirty and moldy. After I cleaned it up I knew I would have to replace the top of the desk but the rest of the desk and chair were salvageable. I glued and tightened up screws as needed and then prepared to paint.
All the supplies I used can be found at Home Depot.
Supplies:
- 1) sand paper
- 2) tack cloth
- 3) paint
Procedures:
- clean surface with soap and water to remove grease and dirt
- sand all surfaces
- wipe with tack cloth to remove particles from sanding
- paint color/colors of your choice (I painted all white surfaces with a brush and let it dry for several days. I taped up all white areas that were joined to where I wanted blue and painted the exposed areas with blue spray paint)
Now my grandson has something to treasure. A desk given by one grandmother and painted by the other.
