Make it Mondays are brought to us by Rebecca of Tumbleweed Preschool in Advance, NC. She is always looking for frugal DIY projects for her students and her home. We are sharing Rebecca’s DIY project on MoolaSavingMom.com because they can be used for home schoolers, young artists and anyone else who wants DIY ideas that can save them money on projects around the house.
I always try to do my DIY projects with things I have around the house. Usually they are items left over from other projects. This week I have a rocking chair on my front porch whose seat was beginning to fray. I did not have any materials to re-weave the seat so I decided to make a new set.
I used the frame from the woven seat and cut pieces of hardwood flooring I had left over from installing floors in my home. It worked great and did not cost me a cent!
Supplies:
- hardwood flooring pieces
- screws
- stain
- drill and drill bits
- table saw
- cut off saw
Procedures:
- remove old seat and frame and take off woven seat
- stain frame and replace on chair
- cut the tongue and grove off sides of hard wood flooring pieces
- round off edge on front of each piece
- measure and cut pieces to needed length
- stain all cut sides of hard wood flooring
- drill holes in each hardwood flooring piece into frame
- screw in all pieces
So, there you have it. Quick, easy and made from supplies I already had in my garage!
