My husband came home raving about this Terikayi Chicken with Onion Sauce from Subway. So I did some looking around online and combined a few recipes to come up with one that worked for my family (and what I had on hand) to get two thumbs up and a “Can you make this again?” from hubby!
Ingredients:
3 Chicken Breasts
Teriyaki Marinade
Sauce:
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 tsp dried onions (you could use up to 1 tbsp but we don’t like lots of onions)
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
2 tsp white distilled vinegar
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp poppy seeds
Just a pinch of salt (I used Sea Salt)
Just a pinch of garlic powder
Cracked black pepper to taste
Directions:
Marinade chicken in Terikayi Marinade for 30 minutes to overnight. (I used Ken’s Marinade and marinaded for 2 hours).
Place chicken on preheated grill.
While chicken is grilling place all remaining ingredients in sauce pan. Stir well and bring to a boil. Boil about 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool while chicken grills.
Brush chicken with onion sauce in the last minute of grilling.
When chicken is completely cooked, slice and drizzle with remaining sauce. Serve.
Tips: Brining the chicken overnight before cooking makes it juicy and more flavorful. Cooking the onion sauce in advance and refrigerating overnight will allow the flavors to combine better but it was delicious cooked with the chicken.
I combined several recipes but these two were the most inspirational: Coleens Recipes and Subway CopyCat.
