My daughter begs me often to make her pear sauce. She loves it so much I thought I would share the recipe with you and maybe you will love it too!
The best part is you decide how chunky it is- she likes hers pretty chunky but if you like it smoother just use a potato masher to make it so. It’s a great way to use up fruit that might not be so good for fresh eating- you know the ones with a bruise or a soft spot! My favorite thing is picking up “seconds” from the farmer’s market or quick sales from the grocery store. These are than perfect produce items that most people would put right back. But getting a great deal on them makes cooked fruit (and veggie) dishes frugal and doesn’t let them to go waste!
- 4 pears, cut into small pieces
- 3 green apples, cut into small pieces
- ½ cup water
- ¼ tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Put diced pears, apples and water into a pan.
- Simmer over medium heat until the fruit is soft and most of the liquid evaporates, about 25 minutes total.
- Remove from heat and using a masher mash the fruit to the consistency desired. Sprinkle with cinnamon and mix well.
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
